Matthew Merrett

Matthew Merrett has been exploring and photographing decaying and abandoned sites/ buildings that no other people seem to notice or go,  for over Ten years. These places include old buildings factory's and mines. He has always been interested in architecture and is drawn to open spaces like train stations and airports. after 9/11 he was having a hard time shooting the spaces he wanted to without being questioned by police or security.
His first photo shoot was an old warehouse in liberty village in Toronto. The building has already been cleared out and access was easy. He finds abandoned places really interesting and when he is there he wonders was its previous use was and who worked/ went there. He says that when he goes to a new place he can feel the history in the walls.

In 2005 Matthew formed a photography group with another five photographers called DK photo group
They shot in many places such as Ontario, Buffalo, Detroit, Ohio and many another places that buildings were left to die. They also ran there own gallery for a few years. They also did many exhibitions between the year 2006 and 2012.

I really love his work and how he manages to capture beauty in what other people might think is disgusting and ugly. I also love how all of his images have a completely different feel to them its almost like you were at the location and his passion for what he does. I also find him very inspiring.
